Dongfeng Box EV Officially Launched In Pakistan : As Distributors Clash Over Rights

Chawla Green Motors has made a bold entry into the Pakistani electric vehicle (EV) market by launching the Dongfeng Box EV hatchback. With a growing demand for eco-conscious mobility and the increasing shift towards electric transportation, this launch adds a new player to the country’s compact EV segment. The Dongfeng Box EV comes in two variants — LUX 430 and Flagship 430 — priced at PKR 6,400,000 and PKR 6,800,000, respectively. Furthermore, the car in question is a small EV aimed at urban consumers looking for an affordable, fuel-free driving option. The original manufacturer is a Chinese company called Dongfeng, which is the smallest of China’s four state-owned automobile manufacturers. Headquartered in Wuhan, Dongfeng has a market capitalization of nearly $5 billion.

Specifications and Performance of Dongfeng BOX EV

Under the hood, both variants feature a 70 kW Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor with front-wheel drive (FWD). Powered by a 42.3 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery, the vehicle offers an impressive driving range of 430 km on a single charge. It supports DC fast charging that delivers up to 80% charge in just 30 minutes, and also includes a 6.6 kW AC charger. However the car achieves a top speed of 140 km/h, making it suitable for both city commuting and occasional highway drives.

Exterior and Interior Features

The Flagship 430 variant includes premium design elements such as 17-inch alloy wheelsadaptive LED headlamps, and a 540-degree panoramic camera. The base LUX 430 variant features 16-inch wheels and a rear camera system for assistance.

Inside, drivers enjoy a 5-inch digital instrument cluster8-inch infotainment systemwireless phone charging, and multiple drive modes (Eco, Comfort, Sport). The Flagship model goes a step further with a heated and ventilated driver’s seatadaptive cruise control, and automatic parking.

Safety And Comfort

GuGo Motors ensures peace of mind with essential safety features like dual airbags, tire pressure monitoring (TPMS), ABS, EBD, Hill Start Assist (HSA), ESC, Brake Assist, and traction control.

The Flagship 430 further enhances safety with high-end features like Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB), Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Lane Keep Assist (LKA), Highway Driving Assistance (HDA), and Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR).

Booking and Delivery

Customers can book the Dongfeng Box EV with a PKR 1,500,000 deposit. Same-day delivery is possible if the selected color is in stock; otherwise, the wait time is 40 to 50 days.

Chawla Green Motors is offering a 4-year/150,000 km vehicle warranty and an 8-year/200,000 km battery warranty, ensuring peace of mind for buyers.

Price Differences

The only differentiation between the cars launched by GUGO and the Chawla Group is pricing and variant. The GUGO Box comes in three variants. The E1 is priced at Rs. 67 lakhs with. The E2-is available for Rs.73 lakhs and the fully loaded Box EV is the most premium, priced at Rs. 77 lakh. 

On the other hand, Chawla group under the name Dongfeng box has launched two variants. The Dongfeng box flagship and the Dongfeng box lux at Rs 64 lakhs and Rs 68 lakhs respectively. Moreover The Chawla Group clearly believes it has the upper hand, backed by documents and a direct relationship with Dongfeng. GUGO, on the other hand, claims they also have rights to sell the car at least until October 2025.
