Furthermore, India are set to take a final decision on Jasprit Bumrah’s participation in the Champions Trophy on February 11, the deadline for submission of the final squads to the ICC, as uncertainty lingers over his fitness. According to Indian media Bumrah has had a scan on his back at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru recently. The BCCI’s medical staff will now coordinate with the selectors and the India team management before the decision is taken.Bumrah was included in the provisional 15-man squad for the Champions Trophy announced on January 18, but hasn’t been able to play a part in the ODI series against England, India’s last fixtures before the tournament begins on February 19.

In January, while announcing the provisional squad for the Champions Trophy, chief selector Ajit Agarkar had said that based on information provided by the BCCI medical staff at the time, Bumrah was not “likely to be fit for the first couple of games” of the England ODI series. Agarkar had said that Bumrah was “asked to offload for five weeks” from bowling, before undergoing fresh scans on his back in first week of February.

Pakistan are in Group A of the Champions Trophy along with India, Bangladesh and New Zealand. India will play all their matches in Dubai after not being given permission to travel to Pakistan – the official host of the tournament – by the Indian government. They begin their campaign against Bangladesh on February 20, before playing Pakistan on February 23 and New Zealand on March 2.

The first time India and Pakistan came face-to-face in One Day International (ODI) cricket was in 1978 – almost seven years after the first ODI was played between Australia and England,

Since then, the two times have met in 135 official ODI matches – more than in any other format of the game to date.

Currently, Pakistan lead the India vs Pakistan head-to-head record 73-57. Five matches have yielded no results.

First Ever India vs Pakistan ODI :

The first-ever India vs Pakistan ODI match was played in Quetta on October 1, 1978. It was the first of the three-match ODI series as part of India’s tour to Pakistan with each team playing 40 overs a piece instead of the modern day 50-over variant.

Led by Bishen Singh Bedi, the Indian Cricket team won the match with just four runs. After India posted 170/7, Pakistan were restricted to 166/8 by the visitors. Moreover India’s Mohinder Amarnath scored a half-century in the match and was awarded the first-ever Player of the Match award in an India vs Pakistan ODI.

Though India won in Quetta, the Pakistan cricket team drew level in the series by winning the next match in Sialkot by eight wickets.

The decider in Sahiwal, however, ended in unceremonious fashion as India skipper Bishen Bedi conceded the game in protest against Sarfraz Nawaz’s continuous short-pitched bowling.

Chasing Pakistan’s 205/7, India were 183/2 after 37.4 overs at the time. India conceding the game meant Pakistan, captained by Mushtaq Mohammad won the inaugural ODI series between the two rivals 2-1.

Pakistan, in fact, have gotten the better of India in 11 of the 17 bilateral ODI series’ between the two sides till date as opposed to India’s five. One, played in the UAE in 2006, ended in a 1-1 stalemate after both.

The two teams, however, haven’t faced off in an ODI bilateral series since early 2013.

Bragging rights, however, change drastically when it comes to the ODI World Cup. India are currently unbeaten in all their eight meetings against Pakistan in the showpiece ICC tournament in the format.

In the ICC Champions Trophy, Pakistan have won three and India just two.
